    Berlin Edition

Hi guys as some of you may remember, a few weeks ago I went to Berlin, which I call the 'NYC of Germany', if not of Europe.
Being such a big, busy and multicultural city, one doesn't feel rushed nor stressed.
The people are very friendly and one doesn't even need to speak German. Everyone is more than happy to speak englisch.

http://www.berlin.de/
Surely one has to do sightseeing in Berlin. Since I have been several times to Berlin I've seen most of the main attractions I think and it is always fun to cruise through this city wether by bike, car, underground or sightseeing bus.

Berlin always has something new to discover or even old to rediscover.
Of course I did a lot of shopping too. First I went to a nearby shopping centre as we know them over here in Ireland too.
Though the nicest and prettiest shopping experience I had was at a designer outlet shopping village vert close Berlin City.
Managed by Arthur McGlen.

They cater for everyone. From German designers to famous jeans brands, swimm wear to lingerie, watches to home-wear.
Straight away I spotted an Italian vintage pop up shop calles 'A.N.G.E.L.O-Lugo -Vintage Palace'.

Here the two treasures I hunted down.

Last but not least I want to mention the great variety of second hand/vintage stores Berlin has to offer.
It is full of them and they vary in size from a small garage to department store size.
Here are a few shots of 'Garage', the one I managed to go to. (Thanks again to the friendly staff and management for letting me take a few pictures)

I would have loved to explore more of Berlin, but between sightseeing, cocktail bar crawl and shopping I reached my limit with only 3 days time.
There definitely will be a next time again and again ♥

I hope you enjoyed my Berlin edition blog and I could give you a little insight.

What do you think of this gorgeous vintage style Guess bag and matching purse?
One of my colleagues bought it in from the States a few weeks ago.
This Guess hobo tote bag is a snake leather imitation in grey shades with white stipes accents, brown handles.

THINGS THAT MAKES US HAPPY

Today I want to feature a former colleague and dear friend of mine Mags from Ireland.
I usually feature items people love as in things, but I was so impressed by her 'thing that makes her happy', I couldn't resist.

It made and makes her very happy to help, where help is needed and where she can.
A couple of years ago she went to Africa and did some voluntary work there.
She is more of hands on person and loves to be actively involved.

She always knew she would go back, maybe even to the same place and support more, when more time and maybe a bit more money on her hands.
I should maybe mention, Mags retired recently and thought to herself, this would be the perfect time for her to go return to Africa and see what else she could do for the poor part of the society.
She ended up in Kenya in an Orphanage.

The native lady running the place stated it all while she was still too young to run a business and since she got no founds from the government she involved Mum and some other family members.
The Orphanage caters for children from as young as 1 year old up to 17/18 years.
She left me a few photos with some comments.
Enjoy!

Clean water is vital for the survival of Kenya's children / typical scene of a young girl carrying a heavy container on her head

Poor santitation needs to be addressed to move Kenya from the third world / girl carrying her sibbling barefoot along a littered street

Local Shop / pots and pans at a local market in Karen, Nirobi

Lean & Mean, the pride of Kenya on the prowl / lions in Nairobi National Park

Education is the key to Kenya's future / children playing at school ( a hat not obligatory in the midday sun)
I particularly wanted the photo with that little girl wearing the woolen hat on fairly hot day in Kenya.
Who knows maybe she is the new trend setter in her school.
The latest news I have from Mags are she is collecting books to set up a library at the Orphanage.
Thanks so much for sharing your story with us.
You rock! xxx

Second Hand Shopping

G-Star anorak
G-Star windbreaker style anorak

Hi guys, I am back with one of my second hand / vintage items.
Today I present my G-Star anorak.

It has its typical denim G like symbol on the the back and it signature brand.
A high neck knitted collar and cuffs, and a few zips here and there.

I got this great and easy to wear jacket in Dublin at a second hand charity shop for only 15 euro.
It shows again how affordable shopping can be.

I know it is probably a few seasons old, but I like it anyway.
My motto is, "style doesn't come with a price tag nor a name". (no offence)

Important is that what one wears fits ones body shape and completion, maybe also ones eye color and most important, matches your personality.
That's the key to get away with almost anything in fashion.

Okay bye for now and read me soon ;-) xxx

Thanks,
       Carsten

You

Since green is my color, I could not pass this gorgeous women in green.
This 50's/60's inspired high street dress is just a stunner.
And believe me the photos do not do her any justice compared to the real appearance that was presented in front of me.

Michelle

Here a few items to give that great green dress the finishing touches.
Of course one could pick a red clutch or red shoes matching Michelle's fabulous lipstick, but I chose leopard print to give it the extra edge.

Thanks Michelle

You

Beth
I met Beth on a night out with her friends.
She reminded me of the young Madonna.

I love her interpretation of the rock chick look.

Beth is wearing a 80's style tank top, paired with black shiny stretch pants and of course high heels.
I like the fact she didn't choose black as in the rest of the outfit, she choose a plum, purple color to give the look an extra hint of color.

To make her outfit complete, she added a black crucifix neck less and an oversize ring with a dark stone to repeat and tie in the color scheme.

You see again accessories are super important to complete an outfit.
Also matching different colors and stay in a scheme makes all looking more complete and chic.

Thanks for posing Beth xxx

Second Hand Shopping

Knitted short sleeve top
the 60's/ 70's are know for cotton synthetic mixes

Hello there, hope everyone had a blast on Paddy's Weekend.
I definitely did.

Here another one of my second hand/vintage gems I purchased a few years ago.
The 50% cotton 50% poly-acrylic mix makes last for ever.

I can only repeat myself, "second hand shopping is a great affordable way of jazzing up your wardrobe with unique pieces".
Don't you agree?

Not sure anymore how much I paid for it, but I am sure it was as affordable as my other second hand pieces.

Bye for now until next time
Thanks,

Things that make us happy

Hey guys, how have you been? I am back with post from Sarah aka woodgreen106 on Youtube.
She is a good friend of mine from Germany and does youtube videos about and around make up/hair tips, product tips and more. I love that she gives her videos a down to earth, personal touch.

Check her out.
Here her latest clip as a teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wxw9WuI6z8Y

Sarah: "I love going for coffee with my best friends, my boyfriend and get even more happy if I have a cup of chocolate cappuccino in my favorite cup".

Yummmmmy

Sarah: "I am also super happy when I spend time with my three wonderful god sons. And of course not to forget being a 'Youtuber' since 3 years by now."

Sarah: "But there is more that makes me happy, my little hairy brother named BUDDY. He is a Tibetan Terrier and has gorgeous brown eyes. I can never be mad at him, even if he misbehaves or does other funny goofy stuff, When I look into his cute brown eyes everything is forgotten."

Buddy and Me

Sarah also has a passion for nail polish. "No way, would have never guessed Sarah, especially after seeing your collection myself, lol. I even think that's not all she has collected over the years."

Sarah: "I collect nail varnish since 5-6 years I guess. I know, crazy, ... a girl who loves nail polish :-).
I call around 250 different varnishes my own and my boyfriend hates it, but I couldn't care less, sorry hon ;-).
My favorite brands are Opi, China Glaze, Catrice, essie, Chanel and essence. I actually have to store them in wheely containers, because they got to heavy to move around over the years. But since I polish my nails every day I think it's just handy to have a good variety."

"Thanks Sarah"

Things that make us happy

Hi guys as promised I will feature in today's blog a well established designer from Belfast.
I am proud to present a little blog about

Obviously Dave loves designing and that's THE thing that makes him happy.
He studied printed textile and fashion design at the University of Ulster, Belfast from 2007-2011.

Dave is one of Belfast's few male designer and also acts as manager and fashion designer at Unify.

Displaying his collection at the Belfast Fashion Week 2010-2012 to the NI fashion scene definitely left an impression.
His collections also where on the cover of Northern Ireland's 'Wedding Bell'.

Hi work was initially inspired by medieval Armour and the pattern of the embellishments.

This concept was further developed into design and fabric manipulation by drawing inspiration from the 'Brothers Grimm' Fairy tales to form and create his final collection.

"Totally up my alley too"
I love Steam-Punk and 50's/60's inspired designs.

Other influences are designer like Alexander McQueen and Issey Miyake.
They inspired Dave to create fabrics and designs that would be combined to create a collection of innovative and extraordinary conceptual pieces.

Dave recently had go on men's wear, which proved a big hit with lovers of alternative fashion.
David's collection is a must see for any fashion or textile enthusiast and promises not to disappoint.

I am sure there is much much more to look forward too from this promising and original designer.

"Thanks very much Dave for your colaboration and the photo material. All the best for your designer future. Can't wait to see more of your designs."

Hope I made you All curious about Dave Henderson, if you didn't know him already.
I definitely enjoyed blogging about him and can't wait to
get my hands on some of his pieces.

Love,
      Carsten

Things that make us happy

Today I want to feature Fergus's post from Dublin, Ireland.
"Hello neighbor"

Fergus: "You might guess, I like creepers, I even wore them to my Confirmation 1988."
I think I did too, "high 5 Fergus".

Leopard Suede: George Cox / Tiger Leather: New Rock / Suede Black: Demonia / Red Flames: New Rocks

Fergus: "The George Cox (leopard, suede) creepers are the very expensive ones, they're around 200 Euro quid.
The Tiger New Rock's are a custom pair and were ordered specially. The Demonia (suede, black) are the cheaper ones and not a great quality."

Silver Flames: New Rock / Silver Dots: New Rock / Black Suede:  Undergound

Fergus: "The Underground half  sole creepers are for every day wear.I even wear them to work.I wanted half sole creepers because the chunky ones are difficult to drive in. Avoid T.U.K brand creepers because although they really look good, I had to bring a pair back after only 3 wears because the quality so bad, it felt like they would fall apart."

Before ordering try to support the local. And check out China Blue, Dublin, Temple Bar, they do among other brands and styles New Rock creepers/boots and Doc Marten's too. Other wise see following links to order your favorite pair.

"Thanks Fergus"

Bye for now, until next time.

Love,
      Carsten

Things that make us happy

This time I present some items Sonja from Germany send me.

H&M.com
 She recently bought this t-shirt @ H&M.

Sonja: "I saw it and knew I must have it"
"It's pink, it glitters and it's Darth Vader. It's so me".

One of Sonja's oldest and absolute favorite items in her wardrobe are her Doc Marten's.

http://www.drmartens.com/
She has them 17 years now and still wears them.
"The shoes of my life"

Thanks Sonja x

Second Hand Shopping

Tweed Blazer
Dad's finest? Now it's mine :-)

Hi guys.
Here another one of my second hand/vintage treasures.

I got this tweet, hounds-tooth sports jacket in brown/beige tones, of my Dad.
I think it is approx 30 years old and its still immaculate considering my Dad wore it and now I do.

great craftsmen ship, check out the lining and stitching
The blazer is 60% wool and 40% polyester, the lining is 100% viscose and needs to brought to a dry cleaner please.
Also because of the suede leather patches.

leather patches sooo in
Check out the detailing again suede leather patches and leather button at the front and the cuffs and the supporting fleece under the collar.

Not sure how much my Dad paid for it back then, but I guess it shows that quality is worth spending money on.
Surely one doesn't want every single item in ones wardrobe to last 30-40 years, but this one is and was definitely a keeper.

Of course it looks the best when worn,  thanks to my model  too ;-)
Because it's so easy to combine with shirts, fine knit jumpers, long sleeves, t's, in almost any color makes it so much fun to wear.

A little tip, go for a color that goes with your eye color because it'll help you to let your eye's stand out more since the jacket is quite plain color wise.
Pair it even with a dark brown, burgundy or mustard and for the spring time maybe a baby blue.

Ok enough for this time, thanks for stopping by.
Until next time.

Thanks,
        Carsten

Things that make us happy

Hi guys I am very excited to present the first post from YOU.
This one is from Marie who lives in London and was born in Austria.

It is so much fun receiving photos and the little stories behind your 'Things that make u happy'

laced, nude tone with a splash of pink 'very sexy' by Victoria's Secret
http://www.victoriassecret.com/

Here we have a photo of Marie's favorite bra.

She loves it for several reasons:
it is her favorite color;
it is sexy,
very comfortable,
gives a perfect shape and it adds a bit of glam.

Marie: "Usually I have problems finding the right bra. They are either too tight or too loose and most of them don't look sexy."

Marie got this 'Thing that makes her happy' as a present from a good friend in New York.

Thanks Marie x

Hope to here more from YOU guys. I am excited to see what's next.
Bye for now, until next time.

Love,
     Carsten

One of my latest purchases

Fleece 'infinity' scarf
(black and red)
Isn't he handsome ;-P

Super practical when cycling, on the motor bike or scooter.
Also great if you just want a little bit of warmth around the neck but don't want or need to bring a full length scarf.

It also can jazz up a t, long sleeve or jumper, lassies and lads ;-)

Thanks for posing Paul

If turning around and tying the one end, one can use it as a beany.

Since I love the idea, I decided to get two, one in each color, hehe
and gave one to each of my closest friends xxx

Thanks,
Carsten
